Coach Deniz Berkay brings nearly two decades of elite competitive fencing experience, including extensive international competition and high-level training under Olympic and internationally renowned coaches. His fencing career reflects the discipline, technical excellence, and competitive mindset developed at the highest levels of the sport.

As an athlete, Coach Deniz fenced for St. John’s University, competing for four years as a member of its NCAA Division I team. Internationally, he represented Turkey as a member of the National Team, competing in Cadet, Junior, and Senior World Cups, European Championships, World Championships, and Grand Prix events across Europe, Asia, and beyond. A highlight of his competitive career was earning a Bronze Medal at the 2014 World Cup in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Prior to joining Titan Fencing Academy, Coach Deniz coached at several prestigious fencing clubs in the United States, working alongside Olympic-level and international coaches. He has also worked with Canadian fencers, further expanding his experience with international training systems and high-performance athlete development.

Coach Deniz previously coached alongside Coach Brian with the Cold Spring Harbor Varsity Fencing Team, where he led the Girls’ Varsity program and helped student-athletes develop competitive consistency and confidence. He currently serves as Head Coach of the Syosset Varsity Fencing Team, one of Long Island’s most accomplished high school fencing programs.

Coach Deniz’s coaching philosophy emphasizes technical precision, strategic thinking, and mental toughness, preparing fencers to succeed at the regional, national, and international levels.

Coach Deniz holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from St. John’s University and a Master’s Degree in Applied Physiology and Sports Management from Southern Methodist University.
